Grammar Tips

A parting expression that used in Turkish any time of the day to strangers or friends is Güle güle, which literally means “Leave with smiles.” It is said like that because partings generally include a bit of sadness. It can be considered this as a Turkish version of “bye bye.”

It can be also said Görüşürüz, which means “See you later.” Literally it means “to see.” It’s used with people who are known and will be possibly seen again. Another parting phrase is Bay bay that means “bye bye”. It is used the same way in Turkish as in English. If it is used with  görüşürüz and then it is formed into “Bye bye, see you soon.” Bay bay, görüşürüz.

There is a more polite way to bid farewell is Görüşmek üzere. That literally means “Until I see you.” The first word, görüşmek, is the verb, “to see.” The second word, üzere, means “until then.” All together, that’s Görüşmek üzere. Please do not forget to use it with strangers or don’t have a close relationship with.
